151 Became a member of the Dutch Reformed Chudh in Cape Town in 1687 as a widow. It seems then that Pieter died at sea. She remarried on 16 May 1688 to Guilaume du Toit. The 3 children from her first marriage were born in Holland and were married in S.Africa.

Sara COCHET was born about 1655 in East Souburg On Walcheren, Nederland. She died before 9 Apr 1714 in Stellenbosch, Wes-Kaap.

The French Refugees at the Cape: from 1688: Cochet or Couchet Sara
of Oosterhoebrugh Walcheren widow of Pieter de Clerq; living in 1687 at Serooskerke when she came out to the Cape to marry Guillaume du Toil q.v. See de Clercq above.

Sara married Pieter DE CLERQ, son of Pieter DE CLERQ and Clasyna CORDIE, about 1670 in Nederland. (Pieter DE CLERQ was born on 4 Oct 1634 in Serooskerke, , Zeeland, Netherlands.)

Sara next married Guillaume DU TOIT, son of Pierre DU TOIT and Marie ROUSELLE, on 16 May 1688 in Kaap de Goede Hoop, Zuid-Afrika. (Guillaume DU TOIT was born about 1655 in Rijssel, , Oost-Vlaanderen, Belgium and died about 1710.)

164 Birth Cert 19382,
Vanda's memories of what her father told her about her grandfather:
left Australia at 13 years old on the Windjammers. Went back when he was 16 and still couldn't agree with his father. Left again and ended up in Capetown where he joined a newspaper. Fought on the British Side in the Boer War.
(This info is almost certainly wrong because the tone of his father's letter and notes to him show no sign of disagreement and because he has a written reference from a lawyer (Slattery) in Sydney dated May 1901; also a letter of reference from the Daily Telegraph Newspaper in Sydney, dd 15 March 1900 saying that he had been employed there for three years.)
We have photos of Ernie armed, on a horse, with the inscription “Boer rebellion”, but this may well have been after the Boer war.
There are photographs of Ernie as an officer in a prison camp? for Chinese workers who were presumably employed in the Gold Mines. On one of the contemporary documents his occupation was listed as “cyanider” so he undoubtedly worked on a Gold Mine treatment plant.
From Cris Waller's conversation with Vernon J StG Peters in April 1997:
Farm HartebeestKuil was bought on the Government loan plan. Maize mainly; 12 miles from Val Station on the Durban train line. Nearest sizable town was Standerton.
Died aged 41 following fall from horse.
